Cleaning a shared apartment

A pile of dirty dishes in the kitchen, toothpaste smeared on the toilet mirror, red mould on the bathroom walls and a few weeks' worth of mail on the hallway floor – the common areas of a shared apartment will not clean themselves, however long you wait. A clean home is much nicer for everyone and a weekly cleaning is quickly done.

Shared apartments are rented out with joint responsibility, which means that every tenant is responsible for keeping the common areas clean. Similarly, all tenants will be handed their share of the bill, if Hoas has to contract a cleaner to come and clean your common areas.

It's a good idea to set some common rules for cleaning the shared apartment. If one person cleans every week and the others never lift a finger, it'll be no wonder if things get ugly. You can find some tips for living in shared apartments here.
