Transfer of right to occupancy

A transfer of right to occupancy means moving from one Hoas apartment to another due to changed circumstances. You can apply for transfer of right to occupancy with the transfer of right to occupancy application. Applications for transfers of right to occupancy are always processed before other applications.

A transfer of right to occupancy application must always include a certificate of the grounds for applying, and the application will not be approved without sufficient cause. Read the instructions carefully before filling in the application.

You can apply for a transfer of right to occupancy on the following grounds:

Transfer of right to occupancy entitles you to one apartment offer

Those applying for a transfer of right to occupancy will receive one apartment offer based on the campus principle. Hoas will guarantee that you will be offered an apartment, but the location or the type of apartment cannot be guaranteed. If you apply for an apartment only in certain areas or you apply only for a certain type of apartment, and you are not willing to accept other offers, you should apply for internal transfer, not apply for a transfer of right to occupancy.

If you do not accept the apartment offered to you when you apply for a transfer of right to occupancy, your application will be removed and you cannot re-apply for an apartment in this way. You can, however, still apply for an apartment through the normal route. Please note that when you submit a normal application, you have no priority status compared to other applicants and therefore, we cannot guarantee that you will offered an apartment when you need it.

A transfer of right to occupancy application does not terminate your tenancy agreement

Your current tenancy agreement will not be automatically terminated – you must always terminate it yourself (the only exception is when a limited time of occupancy ends). You must always terminate your tenancy agreement in writing, either by filling out a notice of termination form, by letter or in person at the Hoas service centre. The notice period is one calendar month.

At the end of a limited time of occupancy, in cases of separation/divorce, or when a tenant in an apartment for friends gives notice of termination, the new agreement will begin immediately after the old one ends. At the end of a work experience, an exchange, or military/civil service, the new agreement can being either in the same month as when the duty elsewhere ends, or at the beginning of the following month, depending on the situation. If the application for a transfer of right to occupancy is made due to pregnancy, we aim to time the offer such that the tenant has enough time to give notice at least one calendar month before moving out.
